Studying in Germany from Bangladesh: what your HSC gets you
An HSC does not get you into a German university on its own. Two routes do: a Studienkolleg, or one completed year of university in Bangladesh. Here is which is yours.

An HSC alone does not give direct admission to a German university. DAAD Bangladesh is clear: after a class-12 certificate you cannot enter directly, so you take a Studienkolleg, a one-year preparatory course, and pass its exam, the Feststellungsprüfung. There is one shortcut: complete one academic year at a Bangladeshi university in your subject, and you can get subject-specific direct admission. You do not need an APS for Bangladesh.

HSC alone is not direct entry
A class-12 HSC does not admit you directly to a German bachelor's.
Studienkolleg is the main route
A one-year Studienkolleg and its exam, the Feststellungsprüfung, lead to the bachelor's.
Or one year of university
One completed year at a Bangladeshi university in your field can give subject-specific direct admission.
Which route is yours?
Find the row closest to you, then confirm your own certificate in anabin.
| Your situation | What we know | Status |
|---|---|---|
| HSC only, no university study | No direct admission; a Studienkolleg and its exam (FSP) are the route | Studienkolleg [1] |
| One completed academic year at a Bangladeshi university in your field | Subject-specific direct admission is possible | Direct (subject) [1] |
| Your exact certificate | Recognition is decided per certificate; check yours in anabin | Check anabin [2] |
You do not need an APS for Bangladesh; it applies only to China, Vietnam and India. A Studienkolleg is taught in German. The final decision is the university's.
Most Bangladeshi applicants with only an HSC take the Studienkolleg route; a completed year of university in your field can open a direct, subject-specific route instead. [1][2]
DAAD Bangladesh states a class-12 certificate gives no direct admission, and names the Studienkolleg and one-year-university routes.
Check your certificate in anabin and confirm the Studienkolleg's language requirement. You do not need an APS.
HSC is not direct entry
DAAD Bangladesh states it plainly: after a class-12 certificate you cannot get direct admission to a German university. An HSC is a class-12 certificate, so on its own it is not enough for a bachelor's.
The route is a Studienkolleg, a one-year preparatory course, followed by the Feststellungsprüfung. Passing that exam lets you apply for a bachelor's. [1]
The one-year shortcut
There is one alternative DAAD Bangladesh names: complete one academic year at a Bangladeshi higher-education institution in your subject field, and you can apply for subject-specific direct admission.
Either way, recognition depends on your exact certificate, so check yours in anabin before you rely on either route. [1][2]
