Your 2026 YKS result is out: what to do for Germany now
Your score and your placement result are both out: the results were announced on 18 August. For most universities this year's winter deadline passed before the YKS result came out. So the most valuable move now is not to rush an application, but to pick the right intake and settle your route.

Your YKS score alone does not decide admission in Germany. What matters more is the program you are placed in and the field you target. Because the common 15 July winter deadline for many programs passed before the 2026 result, first check which programs are still open. The preference window (29 July–10 August) has closed; the next step is planning around your placement result when it arrives.
The standard deadline has largely passed. For many programs the winter deadline is around 15 July, before the YKS result. First check whether your target program is still open.
Your preference affects Germany. You can apply to a German bachelor's with the same or a similar name to the program you were placed in. Choose your preferences with that in mind.
The score alone opens no route. A low score does not automatically rule you out, and a high one does not automatically admit you. What decides is your diploma's classification and your placement.

Some older Turkish articles present score thresholds from the discontinued YGS exam, such as "180,000 points", as if current. The exam system has been YKS (TYT + AYT) since 2018, so do not use those thresholds as a current admission rule. Verify your own case in the current anabin record and on the university's page.
Can you still make this year's winter intake?
For many programs the common winter deadline is 15 July, but the binding date is always the target university's own. The 2026 results came after that, so a realistic plan is worth more than a rushed decision.

Check whether your target program is still accepting applications; some programs and master's courses have different dates. [4]
If open
Your form and complete documents must reach the deadline. uni-assist recommends applying at least eight weeks early in case a document is missing. [4]
If a VPD is required
You must also deliver the VPD before the university's deadline; count its processing time separately. [4]
If closed
Rather than sending incomplete documents in a hurry, plan for the summer intake or the next winter; meanwhile finish your language, translation and diploma evaluation early.
Missing an intake means half a year, but a rushed, wrong application costs the same intake.
What actually decides your route to Germany?
Your YKS score or Turkish ranking alone does not decide admission in Germany. Your eligibility is set mainly by your diploma, the program you were placed in, and your target field. Still, some universities may additionally weigh the YKS result when ranking applications from Turkey.
The concrete rule: if YKS placed you in a Turkish bachelor's program, you can apply to a German bachelor's with the same or a similar name. If you completed an önlisans (two-year) program, you can apply to bachelor's programs in the field you completed. In both cases the final, program-specific assessment is made by the university you apply to. [1]
How to verify your own case
In anabin, open "Schulabschlüsse mit Hochschulzugang", choose Turkey and your own diploma type. The evaluation line tells you the access type: direct (allgemein), subject-restricted (fachgebunden), or one that requires preparation.
If it stays unclear, ask the international office of the university you are applying to. The final decision is the university's, not a consultancy site's or a blog's.
There is a separate check on the Turkish side: YÖK advises confirming the institution's recognition before you begin, through the "Okul Tanıma Belgesi Sorgulama" service on e-Devlet, and states plainly that being recognised does not mean the diploma is automatically accepted as equivalent on graduation. Three common mistakes
- Assuming your route from your score. "My score is good, I'll get in" or "it's bad, I won't" is the wrong frame for Germany; what decides is mainly your diploma and your placement.
- Finding out about a preparatory year too late. Expecting to start a bachelor's directly, then learning at the last moment that a preparatory step comes first, can cost you the intake.
- Treating the deadline as the application itself. The VPD and certified-translation lead times come before it; looking only at the university's date ignores that buffer.

Will a German degree be recognised back in Türkiye?
Two separate things, and YÖK keeps them apart: tanıma is recognition of the foreign institution and programme by YÖK, while denklik is the diploma being accepted as equivalent after you graduate. YÖK states it plainly: an institution being recognised does not mean the diploma will automatically be accepted as equivalent after graduation. The same announcement advises checking the institution's recognition status before you begin, through the "Okul Tanıma Belgesi Sorgulama" service on e-Devlet. This applies to studying abroad generally, not to Germany specifically.
