Faulty does not mean your application was rejected. uni-assist found something in your file that isn't complete yet, and the exact reason is in the My Inbox message inside your My assist account. Check that message first, then work out whether the fix can reach uni-assist before your university's own deadline. The admission decision is never uni-assist's to make; that's always the university's call.
Anyone checking their My assist account and unsure what the status shown means, especially Faulty.
Faulty is not a rejection
It means something in your file isn't complete yet. The exact reason is in your My Inbox message, not a general one.
Open My Inbox first
Don't guess what's missing. uni-assist's message names the specific gap in your own file.
Check your deadline now
A Faulty status doesn't pause your university's application deadline. Work out whether the fix can arrive in time.
The five uni-assist statuses
Definitions quoted directly from uni-assist's own status page.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| In evaluation | Your application has not been evaluated yet. | Wait, usually 4 to 6 weeks [1] |
| Faulty | Your application does not meet all criteria. | Open My Inbox, check the deadline [1] |
| Okay | Your application is complete and meets uni-assist's own requirements for a preliminary evaluation. | Forwarded to your university [1] |
| Case-by-case decision | Your application doesn't fully meet the university's criteria, but the university wants to evaluate it further. | Wait for the university [1] |
| Withdrawn | You withdrew the application yourself. | No action needed [1] |
uni-assist's own page states an evaluation usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. That's a usual range, not a guarantee.
Faulty is not a rejection, but you need to act before your deadline. [1]
uni-assist's own definition describes Faulty as a criteria gap you can still respond to, not a closed decision.
Read the message in My Inbox for the exact reason, then check your remaining time against your university's own deadline, not uni-assist's usual processing window. Submitting a correction does not guarantee a new result before that deadline.
What Faulty actually means
Faulty means uni-assist checked your file against the required criteria and found that at least one isn't met yet. It may result from a missing document, an incorrect document format, or an unmet certification or translation requirement.
uni-assist emails you as soon as the result is available in My Inbox inside your My assist account, and its own page states you can submit missing documents before your application deadline. [1]
If your deadline is close
Read the My Inbox message first: it names your specific gap, not a general one. If the document itself already exists, a format or certification issue may be more straightforward to resolve than other kinds of gaps.
If your university's deadline is only days away, contact the university's international office directly while you fix the uni-assist side; their deadline is what binds you, and they decide whether a late fix still counts. If the request is unclear, or touches more than one document, a second document check before you resubmit can catch a problem before it costs you another cycle.
Do Okay or Case-by-case decision mean you're admitted?
Okay means your application is complete and meets uni-assist's own requirements for a preliminary evaluation, so it's forwarded to your university. Case-by-case decision means your application doesn't fully meet your university's own criteria, but the university wants to evaluate it itself rather than have uni-assist close the file.
Neither is an admission. uni-assist states plainly that the university decides on admission, not uni-assist. Okay confirms your file was complete enough to forward; Case-by-case decision means the university chose to look at your file itself, not that it will accept you. [1][3]
Not sure what your Faulty message needs from you?
A status label tells you the category, not what to send or how urgent it is for your own deadline. Start with a short route check, and an advisor follows up directly if your documents or timing need a closer look.
- A few quick questions, no account needed
- An advisor follows up on unclear cases
- No payment for a first conversation
- Or go straight to application support if you'd rather talk to someone now
常见问题
What does "Faulty" mean on uni-assist?
It means your application doesn't yet meet all the required criteria, often because of a missing or incorrectly formatted document. It is not a rejection. uni-assist emails you the specific reason, and you can submit what's missing before your deadline.
Does a Faulty status pause my university's deadline?
No. Whatever your uni-assist status says, your university's own application deadline still applies, and only the university decides whether a late fix is still accepted.
Does uni-assist refund the handling fee if my status is Faulty?
The fee covers the evaluation work itself, and a Faulty result on its own doesn't automatically trigger a refund. Check the current refund and credit terms on uni-assist's own fee page.
How long does uni-assist take to evaluate an application?
uni-assist's own status page states an evaluation usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. Treat that as a usual range, not a guarantee, and plan from your university's own deadline.
What does "Case-by-case decision" mean?
Your application doesn't fully meet your university's own criteria, but the university wants to evaluate it itself instead of having uni-assist close the file. The outcome is then entirely the university's.
Does "Okay" mean I'm admitted?
No. Okay means your application is complete and meets uni-assist's own requirements for a preliminary evaluation, so it's forwarded to your university. The admission decision itself comes later, from the university.
