Does the SAT get you into a German university?
Short answer: no. Germany's admission routes for US applicants are AP exams, college credits, or a Studienkolleg. The SAT is not one of them. Here is what to do.

No. DAAD's admission routes for a US applicant are a high school diploma with the right AP exams, a diploma plus about two years of US college, or a Studienkolleg. SAT and ACT are not among them, so even a strong SAT score does not replace the qualifications those routes require. AP exams are the direct route. Five AP exams at grade 3 or better give direct admission to any field; four can qualify you for subject-specific admission. They only count if you sat them while still in high school, so switching from the SAT to AP exams is a plan for before you graduate, not after.
Otherwise, the Studienkolleg route. Without AP exams or college credits, the route is a Studienkolleg and its exam.

The SAT is not on DAAD's list
DAAD's guide for US applicants sets out three ways in:
- A diploma with AP exams. Five for any field, or four for a specific subject area.
- A diploma plus about two years of US college. Study already completed at home carries the qualification.
- A Studienkolleg and its exam. The route when neither of the other two applies.
SAT and ACT do not appear as a route. So an SAT score, however high, does not qualify you for admission on its own, and it does not replace the AP or college qualifications those routes require. [1]
What actually gets you in
The routes are qualifying AP exams, prior US college study, or a Studienkolleg followed by the Feststellungsprüfung. Our US route guide sets out exactly what each one needs.
One timing rule decides whether swapping the SAT for AP exams is open to you at all: uni-assist states that AP examinations can only be taken into consideration if the examination was taken during your time at high school. If you have already graduated, sitting AP exams now will not qualify you, and the remaining routes are college study or a Studienkolleg.
